Las Galeras

The Samana peninsula, where the town of Las Galeras is located, is a strip of land with a long history. In the late 1600s, the area was home to pirates and in the 1800s became a haven for African-American freemen. Now, almost 200 years later, it is a destination for visitors to the Dominican Republic who want to escape the all-inclusive resorts found in the DR’s popular resort towns.

Las Galeras is the best place in the region to see whales during their yearly mating season from mid-January to mid-March. The Dominican Republic has some of the best laws in the Caribbean protecting the humpback whales. In addition, the waters around Samana are amazing for sport fishing.  Please join Casa Dorado for a tour!
